The scope of this team is global, with accountability on module developments for the AMERICAS Region, and AS, overall Laundry appliances. Inside Mechanical Structures Powertrain, this is a position inside the Transmission and Drives Team.This role in summaryWhirlpool is seeking a talented Product Development Engineer with a strong engineering background for the Transmission and Drives Team. This engineer will be located in our Tech Center in Rio Claro – Brazil, but responsible for Global Mechanical Structures Powertrain deliverables on Transmission and Drive components, which includes the development and approval of our components throughout the various phases of projects. A variety of technologies is under our accountability: plastic molded parts, casting and powder metal technologies, sheet metal designs, rubber seals and belts, bearings, etc, combined with highly interactive work with cross-functional teams and, suppliers, make this position a must-apply if you are looking for a dynamic and challenging job.Your responsibilities will includeAccountable for Transmission and Drives components (cost & quality activities / new developments) within Mechanical Structures Powertrain.
Work with Service, Quality, and Manufacturing areas to drive investigations of root cause and quality improvements in our businesses.
Work with suppliers, perform competition benchmarking and work with Manufacturing areas to drive business cost reduction projects.
Technical lead of any activity related to Transmission and Drives components: fine-tuning of concepts, material selection, design for manufacturing and assembly, including creating design FMEAs and working with Labs to verify and validate the designs.
Work with Quality teams to run the first part approvals (FPA’s) and Product Part Approval Process (PPAP).
Cover the role of RMO (Regional Module Owner) supporting roadmaps and strategy plans around specific modules and attributes to help reduce complexity.
Communication with procurement and suppliers to work on the development of components.Minimum requirementsBsC in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or related field
Solid experience in product development in related fields with proven results
Proven experience with mechanical components (design of structural components – casting/stamped/plastic, shafts, tubes, gearing systems, sleeve bearings, and ball bearings sizing). Specification testing and analysis. Proven experience in product development and complex system integration. Sound, and Reliability knowledge.
Understanding and reviewing simulation (FEM, FEA, CFD, CAD) reports and incorporating recommendations into design
Proficient in English language (read, listen, write and speak)Preferred skills and experiencesExcellent communication skills
Experience in the selection and application of materials for component design
PLM (Product Life Cycle Management) tool
CAD skills (Creo)
Concept concurrent development, and related evaluation. System engineering approach.
Six Sigma or OpEx – Operational Excellence Tools (Thought Map, Product Map, Process Map, DOE’s, COV’s), GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) stack up, drawing reviews
Experience working with cross-functional teams in a matrix environment
Project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in parallel
